Earn From Fields Without Farming

Respectful, insured metal detectorists will pay to scan your land.
You get £10 per person, per day. If they uncover treasure, you legally get 50% of the value. And while at it, they’ll clear scrap that can puncture tyres, harm livestock, or wreck combines. All holes filled, no mess.

How much can I expect to make per acre?

You receive a flat rate of £10 per detectorist, with a limit of one person per acre. So a 50-acre field could earn you up to £500 per day at capacity.

How often can I hold an event?

When a field shows positive results, you can open it up for multiple days at a time, which happens often. Every time the land is ploughed, you can put on another event. Detectorists love a freshly ploughed field just as much as you.

Is my land protected against damage?

Yes. Detectorists must follow strict rules, including filling all holes properly, respecting crops, livestock, gates, and property, and leaving fields as found. All registered detectorists carry valid public liability insurance, typically provided through the NCMD.

What happens if someone finds something valuable?

If a detectorist uncovers anything valuable (deemed treasure by the FLO), the value is split 50/50 between you and the finder. You’ll be notified and kept informed every step of the way. This is a legal requirement that all members understand.

How do I make sure detectorists respect my land?

Every detectorist is verified by NCMD and must follow a strict code of conduct. You set your own rules, limits, and access terms — and you approve every booking. Our reputation and partnerships with landowners are vital to our success, so any disrespectful members will be handled swiftly and seriously.

Who supervises or manages detectorist visits?

For smaller digs, detectorists manage themselves or can be supervised by the landowner if preferred. Larger group digs are managed by a designated steward or site admin to ensure all rules are followed. You don’t have to meet or interact with the detectorists at all if you’d rather. Morning arrivals will be from 8:30 am, and everyone will be gone by 6 pm (most by 3 pm).

“I was a bit unsure at first, but it’s been a great experience. The detectorists were polite, left no mess, and even flagged some old scrap I didn’t know was there. Easiest £1200 I’ve made in 2 days.”
